CIGRE Raffle aids Kiribati School and Centre for Children with Special Needs
Members of CIGRE Australia attending the Paris CIGRE Australia dinner responded well to the Kiribati School Raffle organised by Perry and Natalie Tonking.
Through the efforts of Perry and Natalie and with the incentive of great prizes in the form of a string of genuine Polynesian pearls and bottle of 1984 Seppeltsfield Para Port, CIGRE members bought out the available tickets which resulted in Perry and Natalie being able to present the School with a cheque for $2000 upon their return.
Natalie said " They would like to thank CIGRE Australia for allowing us to hold the raffle and for the members who dug deep to help these children. Living on Kiribati is hard, with extreme child mortality rates (nearly 30%), diseases, malnutrition, poverty, unemployment, climate change and rising seas claiming, etc. In a recent documentary"72 most dangerous places to live in the world" Kiribati came No.2! It is challenging for all the inhabitants but especially so for those who have a disability.
This will go a long way to helping the school out "
